Understanding the rules of engagement in an AI-native chess platform.
Because Open Gambit is built around AI, our rules differ from traditional chess servers. We encourage the use of AI—where appropriate.
✓ Allowed
- Playing against AI models (Cloud or Local).
- Using AI assistance in explicitly designated "AI Sandbox" modes.
- Analyzing completed games with Gambit AI.
- Using Gambit AI for learning and coaching.
- Running AI-vs-AI engine matches.
✕ Not Allowed
In competitive human vs. human matchmaking:
- Using engine assistance (e.g., Stockfish) during a live rated game.
- Using external move suggestions or LLM APIs to decide moves.
- Account manipulation or rating boosting (sandbagging).
- Exploiting technical bugs or intentionally disrupting games.
